
Alex Fung
Alex is a litigator and has a broad civil and criminal practice.
On the civil side, Alex has a particular focus on contentious probate, mental health proceedings, and New Territories land. In addition, Alex has extensive experience in contractual disputes, corporate insolvency, fraud and asset tracing, debt recovery, employment, personal injury defence, and matrimonial law.
On the criminal side, Alex has acted for clients in a wide spectrum of defence matters, including money laundering, fraud, traffic offences, sexual offences, offences against the person, dangerous drugs-related offences and immigration offences. He frequently represents clients before the Magistrates’ Courts for mentions, bail applications, and mitigations, and conducts legal visits at police stations and correctional facilities.
Alex frequently conducts his own advocacy in substantive interlocutory hearings, including applications for summary judgment, interim injunctions, and appointment of interim committee in mental health cases.

Corporate & Commercial
- HCA 601/2018 – acted for a listed financial institution in a debt recovery action, argued issues surrounding agency, third-party rights and MLO defence, and successfully obtained a summary judgment against the debtor (as sole advocate)
- HCCW 266/2023 (ongoing) – acting for a creditor in the winding-up of a listed company and successfully obtained a substitution order in place of the original petitioner (as sole advocate)
- Advised a Chinese manufacturer of electronic appliances on the termination of a long-term distributorship agreement valued at several billion US dollars
Contentious Probate
- HCAP 7/2021 – acted for the executrix in resisting challenges to the validity of the will and advised on the application of The Great Qing Code
- HCAP 36/2020 – acted for the executor of the deceased’s will and successfully compelled his siblings to agree to revoke the letters of administration in respect of the deceased’s estate, with substantial costs recovered
- HCAP 15/2021 (ongoing) – acting for the executrix in resisting challenges to the validity of the will
- HCAP 32/2023 (ongoing) – acting for the administrator of the deceased’s estate and resisting an application for the revocation of the letters of administration by the purported executor
Mental Health Proceedings
- HCMH 46/2022 – acted for the interveners and successfully obtained a range of interim injunctions against other members of their family from dissipating the assets belonging to the alleged mentally incapacitated person (“MIP”) valued at over HK$100 million and appointed an interim committee to manage the estate of the alleged MIP (as sole advocate)
New Territories Land
- HCA 1134/2021 – acted for a real estate developer in resisting an adverse possession claim by squatters
Fraud & Asset Tracing
- DCCJ 4540/2022 – acted for a victim of internet fraud and successfully traced and recovered a considerable portion of the fraud proceeds
Building Management
- LDBM 77/2022 – acted for a luxurious property manager and successfully compelled a duplex owner in removing unauthorised building structures from her property (as sole advocate)
- LDBM 141/2022 – acted for a luxurious property manager and successfully compelled the owner of a detached house in removing unauthorised building structures from its property (as sole advocate)
- Advised a manager of a commercial building in recovering management fees from the bank-appointed receiver
Employment
- Advised a listed automobile manufacturer on the termination of a senior executive and successfully defended against a claim for share options valued at over HK$100 million at the pre-action stage
- Advised a regional beverage manufacturer on the summary dismissal of a senior executive
Criminal
- TMS 2183/2022 – acted for the defendant who re-offended during the operational period of a suspended sentence and successfully persuaded the Magistrate not to invoke an immediate custodial sentence (as sole advocate)
- KCCC 1821/2022 – acted for the defendant teacher charged with assaulting a pupil, with acquittal
